Blocked retrogressive minds

About 300 protesters gathered outside the Bar Council headquarters demanding that the lawyers group halt its controversial forum on ‘Conversion to Islam’ this morning.

The Bar Council today, adhering to the advice of the police - and an angry mob at its doorstep - wrapped up its half-day forum on 'Conversion to Islam' at 10am, an hour after it had started.

Molotov cocktail shock for Shahrizat
By DERRICK VINESH

BUTTERWORTH: Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil had a rude shock when she found Molotov cocktail bottles thrown into the compound of her house in Damansara Heights, Petaling Jaya, on Saturday.

The Prime Minister’s Special Adviser for Muslim Women and Social Development Affairs said she believed it had something to do with the Bar Council Malaysia’s forum pertaining to conversion to Islam.

“My family members were fast asleep when we heard the sound of glass being broken at about 3.30am.

“We did not go out then. But, when we work up early in the morning, we found broken glass bottles filled with kerosene splattered in our compound.

“There was also a note with it,” she told reporters Saturday after Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak met Permatang Pauh Umno grassroots leaders at Wisma Perkeso in Seberang Jaya here.

Shahrizat said she learnt about the incident when she was getting ready to leave for Penang at 7.30am.

“There should not be commotion or any form of violence (because of this issue).

“We have necessary laws, so let us not resort to violence. If they agree or disagree (with the forum), there are ways for them to voice their opinion,” she said.

She said police were investigating the incident.
